At a glance, some key features of this release are : multiple smart maps in one report, “copy” or “save as” your reports when keeping your maps, use the standard BO PDF export to print/export your report with embedded maps and even use the publication BO engine to export your reports with Galigeo maps in batch.

In addition, this new architecture simplifies the installation and configuration. Galigeo no longer needs to be reinstalled after SAP BI updates such as SP or Hot fixes. The installation normally takes 5 minutes!
You can however run into some limitations due to current custom element capabilities.

We are continually working hard with SAP product teams to fix these limitations and enhance the User Experience.
This new release comes with a catalog of standard Geodata such as administrative boundaries for USA, Canada, France, … that you can enrich in few clicks.
You can bring your own data by importing shapefiles or connecting Esri ArcGIS mapservices.
All the Geodata then becomes available to be used in Galigeo maps.
Territory Management is a new great feature that allows you to manage (create, modify, merge…) your own business territories, and more important to balance theses territories based on your KPIs. , These territories can be published and shared in the application.
The standard use case is to allow an organization to manage its sales territories directly within the Galigeo App and to analyze in real time the result of any change.
Territories can be (re)designed in a full visual mode with geomapping tools such as manual selection, drive time area calculation around a location or drag&drop of area from a territory to another.
Territory designers can publish their work in one click and the territories can be consumed across all the organization.
You can now create a thematic analysis directly from a GIS layer by choosing any attributes of the layer.
The layer will appear in the list of thematics as any other thematic layer and you can add it in a group of layer, query an info window, and see it in the legend…
A dataset can be mapped in multiple ways at the same time. For example if datasets have X/Y coordinates and code area, you can represent both the individual points on the map and the data aggregated by area.
A large dataset of points can now be projected on a polygon layer (for example zipcodes, hexagones, geohash, etc…) that aggregates all the information to an upper level view.
This feature brings a new way to visualize the information by creating a new data layer where the indicators are recalculated to fit the chosen target layer.
Combined with the multi-mapping feature, this data aggregation can be used to setup a spatial hierarchy by drilling up a source dataset.
As an authorized user, you can see and manage your data in order to define the fields to display in the info window, the aggregation operators to use for metrics, the join(s) between business data and geodata and the scale range of visibility of the corresponding layer.
Thanks to the Galigeo Smart Mapping technology, most of these settings are automatically done!
As an authorized user, you can create and add your own variables as formulas to existing data sources.
You can create new metrics such as Revenue/Inhabitants or market share that will be completely dynamic when aggregated on a layer or used in the Territory Manager.
This new feature is very simple to use and doesn’t cover all use cases but we worked hard to enhance it in order to deliver more value to your organization.
Here is a simple and valuable feature that allows any user to open the current map in a new full window of the browser.
Zoom back allows you to simply go back to the previous location and auto zooms to where you were.
You can now import an existing configuration of operational layers from one map to another.
You can now edit the name of a group of layers directly from the layer panel. If you rename a group of layers as an existing group name, the two groups will automatically merge.
In addition, layer panel design has been optimized to display more layers at screen.
You can now remove map objects directly form the selection table or zoom to an object in the list.
You can now manage and launch global dynamic reports in Galigeo Enterprise that will refresh on open based on optional user inputs.
Authors can now choose a map screenshot to be used as a thumbnail for the maps listed in Galigeo portal.
Galigeo G17.5 is using field positions in the data source and can be impacted by any modifications of this data source:
– If you rename fields in your query, corresponding aliases are not automatically updated in Galigeo ; you can do it from the data configuration page
– If you add a new field in your query, you must add it at the end of the query to prevent any data index break
– If you remove or reorder fields in the query, you will break data indexed which will in turn break the layers based on the query”
Printing our interactive HTML5 Maps is really tricky and we do our best to offer this premium capability to our end users when having server side print to be used in batch mode with BO publication module.
You can then meet some difficulties around:
As we are still in the big data Era, you could expect to work with large datasets to be displayed and manipulated on your maps. Displaying 1.000.000 points or dozens of thousands zip codes at the same time on an interactive map is a perfect example.
We would love to hear more about your use cases to design the best product for big geodata.
Note that the new version allows you to project your points on a polygon dataset which can considerably improve the performances in these use cases.
We have simplified the architecture of the product by merging all the component in one unique WebApp, which simplifies the installation.

Our extension now comes as a custom element in SAP BI 4.2 SP3, which simplify exploitation operation such as SAP product updates. We have been working hard to simplify the installation in this situation using our auto-deploy technology. Basically, administrators only need to deploy the Galigeo webapp on a server then can do all the configuration online.
Java 6 is no longer supported.
Tomcat 6 is no longer supported.
Operational layers setup in XML configuration files are no longer supported and shall be configured in configuration pages of the Galigeo maps.
